We’re back, bb!! The tea & your Ed. 2 teaser
You’d never believe what it took just to send this email! The story and what’s next.
As you all have witnessed, we’ve fully entered the age of bots. Speaking to a real human online? Virtually unheard of.
Cue The Beatbrief account recovery saga.
After posting an announcement celebrating 88 subscribers once the first edition was launched, we were auto-booted from our login session. Upon numerous attempts to regain entry, and frustrating run-arounds with support bots, we discovered what went wrong:
A glitch in the Substack system had forced our account to be tied to an impossible Gmail address, containing the ‘|’ character.
The solution eluded us. It seemed this dream of sharing music and artistic resources for and with you had died on the vine. I was deeply gutted.
…..
~ Then… Helene hit. ~
All the efforts of Asheville citizens— for the year+ afterward— were focused on basic survival, community support, and recovering our beautiful city. Despite having had a post-Helene edition in draft, we couldn’t get into Substack, and The Beatbrief was put on the backburner.
Eventually, after a spectacular effort from its citizens, AVL returned to a sense of normalcy. At last, we found the energy for one last push to revive this publication— and so, our focus shifted to re-launching this project as a service to you all and the artistic community.
With some help from a friend— plus a lot of determination navigating further run-arounds— we managed to find a way to speak with real humans at Substack. Then, after three more months of effort,
FINALLY, our account was recovered!!
… And the truly amazing thing? Your support persisted through it all. You’ve helped us continue to grow during the hiatus, and we are **feeling the gratitude**.
So what do we have in store for you in coming weeks?
In the next edition, you’ll discover:
Two in-house playlists:
Hard Candy (hard-hitting dnb/UKG tracks with catchy vocals), and
Deep Wubz (selections of the best bass-heavy tracks from 2026 & the past year)
Specially-curated guest playlists by Deano the Bambino of HiVi Sound System, inspired by his recent travels abroad, including genres like
Minimal global house
Lofi hip hop
Recent mixes from underground producers, showcasing:
Experimental bass, and
Dark techno
